The State Liberals are committed to a Mitcham Hills transport solution that benefits all residents and commuters.
A Marshall Liberal Government will invest $20 million into the first stage of the Mitcham Hills corridor upgrade, which includes Blackwood roundabout.
“Investment in the Main Road corridor – from Coromandel Valley to Mitcham is essential,” said Member for Davenport, Mr Sam Duluk MP.
“The State Liberal Government $20 million investment will deliver for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians whilst incorporating sustainable outcomes for our public transport network.
“There are many sections along this corridor that are causing concerns and frustration for local commuters.
“A Marshall Government is committed to delivering the infrastructure improvements that are desperately needed to help commuters subjected to the daily crawl to and from Belair Road and Old Belair Road.”
Whilst Mr Duluk welcomes today’s announcement that the State Government will spend $3.5 million to improve traffic flows at the Blackwood Roundabout, he has characterised it as too little too late.
“State Labor has ignored the needs of the Mitcham Hills community for the past-15 years,” said Mr Duluk.
“Many people will be sceptical that with an election just nine monthsaway they have finally decide to improve an intersection has been ranked one of the riskiest in our State for years.
“Their plan also fails to address the more acute needs of traffic flows along entire Main Road corridor, the provision of more accessible public transport, and additional car-parking in and around the shopping precincts.
“Traffic congestions and safety concerns do not begin and end at the Blackwood Roundabout, anyone who has spent time in this community, and knows the locals, would understand that,” said Mr Duluk.
