Car Parking in Blackwood

Liberal Member for Davenport, Sam Duluk MP, has called on the City of Mitcham to buy a residential property at the corner of Waite Street and Young Street in Blackwood to create more parking for public transport users and customers of local businesses.

The property is currently on the market.

"Parking for the train station, for people wanting to catch local buses to Flinders or into the city and for shopping is a serious issue in Blackwood," said Mr Duluk.

"People have been telling me they want more ‘park and ride’ car spaces and better access to shopping centres and community facilities."

Blackwood Action Group (BAG) President Andrew Tidswell supports the provision of improved parking:

"Strategic planning for the Blackwood District Centre should seriously consider properties like this on the edge of the centre for future developments including additional car parking. BAG also supports the provision of additional local car parking to make it more convenient for people to use public transport" said Mr Tidswell.

"Additional parking in an area that serves the railway station and two shopping centres, the Waite Reserve and the Blackwood Community Centre is desperately needed" said Mr Duluk

"I will be writing to Mitcham Council asking that they seriously consider buying this property to open up more space for parking in Blackwood."
