Intervention Orders (Prevention of Abuse) Amendment Bill

In Parliament - Wednesday, 3 June 2015

Mr DULUK (Davenport) (12:43:03): I rise to speak in support of this bill—but, no, I am not the lead speaker on it. This bill seeks to amend the Intervention Orders (Prevention of Abuse) Act 2009 and other related amendments. The act provides for intervention orders commonly known as DVOs. I would like to preface my remarks on the bill by saying that I believe that domestic violence is a terrible blight on our society and that I live in hope that one day we can eradicate it. 2015 has been a year in which domestic violence has been front and centre of our national agenda.

Youth Court of SA

In Parliament - Tuesday, 12 May 2015

Mr DULUK (Davenport) (16:19:07): I also rise to speak to the bill, and thank the deputy leader for her contribution. I will not ever propose to be as detailed as she has been.

The Hon. J.R. Rau: Oh, come on.

Mr DULUK: It is the joys of not being a lawyer. Deputy Speaker, the ultimate objective of the Statutes Amendment (Youth Court) Bill 2015, from the way it has been presented, is unfortunately to save money. As Professor Rick Sarre, from the University of South Australia and Adelaide University Football Club fame, has observed—

In Parliament - Thursday, 14 May 2015

Mr DULUK (Davenport) (10:51:40): I rise this morning to briefly speak on the Fire and Emergency Services (Volunteer Charters) Amendment Bill 2015. This bill was introduced by the member for Morphett, a man who is a life member of the CFS and a tireless advocate for the CFS and emergency services more generally. When the member for Morphett speaks about the CFS, this government ought to sit up and listen.

National Domestic Violence Remembrance Day

In Parliament - Thursday, 7 May 2015

Mr DULUK (Davenport) (12:51:49): I also rise to support the motion by the member for Reynell, and a very worthy motion it is. This remembrance day is a time when we reflect on the women, children and families who have been killed in the context of domestic violence. The statistics on domestic violence are sobering and, to be honest, they are a blight on our state and our nation. It was not an understatement when our Prime Minister recently referred to domestic violence as a national emergency.

Darlington Upgrade (Government Supply Bill)

In Parliament - Wednesday, 6 May 2015

Mr DULUK (Davenport) (17:16:58): I also rise to speak on the grievance debate as part of the Supply Bill. I will probably not be using references to Churchill or the early settlers, as my colleague the member for Kavel did, but—

(SA Government) Supply Bill 2015

In Parliament - Tuesday, 5 May 2015

Mr DULUK (Davenport) (12:10:30): Thank you, Deputy Speaker, I know I have not been that long in this house. I also rise to speak to the Supply Bill and, of course, the government has come to this house asking to appropriate $3.29 billion from the Consolidated Account for the Public Service of the state for the financial year ending 2016. I know the Liberal Party will of course support this bill but I wish to make a few brief comments about the government's fiscal performance overall.
