MEDIA RELEASE - Monday, 14 December 2015
Member for Davenport is encouraging people to shop local this Christmas to provide a much needed boost to the local economy.
Mr Sam Duluk said spending money locally is more important than ever before.
"South Australian businesses are facing many challenges at the moment, so every dollar we spend locally in the lead-up to Christmas helps," said Mr Duluk.
"We have some fantastic shops in the area stocking a wide range of products with great local service. The positive impact of spending locally this Christmas should not be underestimated, particularly with the high unemployment rate and the need to create jobs.
"Small businesses are the backbone of our State’s economy. If you cannot physically get into a local shop, many businesses now provide online services.
"I think it is vital that we support the people that support us and local businesses play an important role in the community.
"When you shop at locally owned stores, the money you spend stays within the community and shopping local this Christmas will directly benefit you into the future."
We have already seen great community support through the Totally Locally initiative, which was launched in May this year. This campaign aims to promote the value of local shopping, celebrate their unique independent businesses and shops, create community events and a sense of community and ultimately lift the local economy.
"It is important that we build on the momentum created by Totally Locally and continue to support our independent retailers, producers, growers or any type of small business service this Christmas" said Mr Duluk.
