National Domestic Violence Remembrance Day
In Parliament - Thursday, 7 May 2015
Mr DULUK (Davenport) (12:51:49): I also rise to support the motion by the member for Reynell, and a very worthy motion it is. This remembrance day is a time when we reflect on the women, children and families who have been killed in the context of domestic violence. The statistics on domestic violence are sobering and, to be honest, they are a blight on our state and our nation. It was not an understatement when our Prime Minister recently referred to domestic violence as a national emergency.

Mr DULUK (Davenport) (17:16:58): I also rise to speak on the grievance debate as part of the Supply Bill. I will probably not be using references to Churchill or the early settlers, as my colleague the member for Kavel did, but—

Mr DULUK (Davenport) (12:10:30): Thank you, Deputy Speaker, I know I have not been that long in this house. I also rise to speak to the Supply Bill and, of course, the government has come to this house asking to appropriate $3.29 billion from the Consolidated Account for the Public Service of the state for the financial year ending 2016. I know the Liberal Party will of course support this bill but I wish to make a few brief comments about the government's fiscal performance overall.

Mr DULUK (Davenport) (12:38:35): I also rise to speak to the centenary of ANZAC motion and commend the member for Fisher for moving that motion today. The centenary of ANZAC is a moment for deep reflection in our communities about the meaning of service and sacrifice, not just at Gallipoli. In my own electorate of Davenport, an ANZAC vigil will begin at 6.30pm on Friday 24 April, and services on ANZAC Day will be held at Blackwood, Coromandel Valley and Flagstaff Hill.

Mr DULUK (Davenport) (16:55:57): I also rise to speak to the Rail Safety National Law (South Australia) (Miscellaneous) Amendment Bill 2015. This bill makes a series of miscellaneous and consequential amendments to the rail safety regime in South Australia and further harmonises state law to accord with the national rail safety regime.

Mr DULUK (Davenport) (15:32:19): 'The Repat Hospital is here to stay; the Repat Hospital will never ever be closed by a Labor Government.' These are the words that former premier Rann uttered in September 2010. How hollow these words are today as we digest the closure of the Repatriation General Hospital under this Labor government's Transforming Health proposal.

Mr DULUK (Davenport) (11:09:58): I also rise today to support the motion by the member for Taylor to refer the bill to a joint select committee of the house. On my understanding, the committee is intended to look at a possible prohibition of any resident of South Australia from receiving a human organ that has been unethically obtained. As we know, this is a practice that happens around the world, particularly in South-East Asia, and is of great concern to many of us on that moral dilemma.

Mr DULUK (Davenport) (11:14:55): Thank you, Mr Speaker, and thank you to the member for Bright for his kind words and the very colourful ending to his speech. I am proud to speak to this Address in Reply before the house today, as the new member for Davenport. First, I would like to acknowledge the support of my party and the trust placed in me to represent the people of Davenport; equally, I thank the electors for their support and the privilege they have afforded me. It is with an enormous sense of gratitude and responsibility that I take on the new role as their representative in Davenport and in South Australia.
